The application of a formal model of the human operator into a system which is dynamically changing

Abstract: The human operator is an extremely difficult element to model in any man-machine interaction due to his nondeterministic nature and possibly nonstationary behavior. This paper develops a formal model utilizing phase plane portraits which can detect (in probability) when it would be appropriate to remove the human from the loop and automate his function. This type of modeling falls within the context of intelligent control or fuzzy control.
