The Applicability of TOPSIS- and Fuzzy TOPSIS-Based Taguchi Optimization Approaches in Obtaining Optimal Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Mix Proportions

Abstract: This research aims to illustrate and express the impact of analytical techniques such as TOPSIS- and FTOPSIS-based Taguchi models on obtaining the optimum design of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC).Three levels of silica fume content, fly ash content, water-to-cementitious (W/C) ratio, and superplasticizer content were examined in the present work. However, the steel fiber content (1%) and the maximum aggregate size of 14 mm were kept constant for all mixes. Once the experimental results were obtained following… Show more

“…It is well known that there is an inverse relationship between W/(C+SF) ratio and strengths. The results coming from this research agree with the aforementioned fact that for the compressive strengths and splitting, tensile strengths increased with the reduction of the W/(C+SF) ratio, such as [21,28]. PP fiber of 0.317 gave the optimum mix at room temperature and 400 °C for the splitting tensile strength.…”

“…By decreasing the requirement for cement, using supplemental cement ingredients like SF and FA has a favorable impact on energy, economical, and environmental considerations in the concrete industry (Dong et al, 2015;Hossain et al, 2016;Liu et al, 2017;de Matos et al, 2020;Kumar et al, 2021a;Alaloul et al, 2021;Çelik et al, 2022). Optimizing concrete mixes using supplementary content is another important consideration in literature (AlShareedah and Nassiri, 2021;Bhuva and Bhogayata, 2022;Wang et al, 2022b;Chen et al, 2022;Rezazadeh Eidgahee et al, 2022;Siamardi, 2022;Solouki et al, 2022;Sun et al, 2022;Warda et al, 2022). As an example, the mechanical characteristics of FA-SF plain concrete (FA-SPC) and FA SF coconut fiber reinforced concrete (FA-SCFRC) are examined in Khan and Ali's study (Khan and Ali, 2019).…”

“…where V p is the cumulative invasion volume of mercury under pressure P, r is the pore radius of the concrete specimen, and D is the fractal dimension. The pore volume of concrete was measured using the MIP method, and the fundamental principle was expressed using the Washburn equation and calculated using Equation (7):…”

“…Incorporating different materials to improve the abrasion resistance of concrete is the most effective and widely used method in engineering [2][3][4][5][6]. Combined with the form and process of concrete being damaged by abrasion, the materials currently used are mainly through the following three ways: (1) Improve the strength of concrete cement paddle by adding mineral admixtures to form a harder cement shell to resist the damage of highspeed sand-containing water flow, such as silica fume concrete, high-strength concrete, HF concrete, and a series of concrete materials [7]. These concrete materials often have a considerable increase in compressive strength while the abrasion resistance is improved as well.…”
