The Anti‐inflammatory Activiy of Metal Complexes of Heterocyclic Thiosemicarbazones, 2-Substituted Pyridine N-Oxides and 2-Pyridylthioureas

Abstract: The thiosemicarbazones and their related metal complexes were shown to be potent anti-inflammatory agents in rodents at 8 mg kg-*. They were effective in blocking induced edema and endotoxic shock while blocking both local and central pain processes. The ability of the agents to function as anti-inflammatory agents is multifold. First, Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNFar) and Interleukin-1 (IL-1) release was markedly reduced by the agents. Second, high-affinity receptor binding on fibroblasts of TNFa and IL-1 w… Show more

“…Due to the strong reactivity of the hydrazine nitrogen (C=N) and thioketone (C=S) groups, TCS compounds represent a versatile class of Schiff bases and are important in medicinal chemistry [ 14 ]. Recently, there has been a concentrated research on Schiff bases and their complexes due to their range of biological activity including antifungal, antibacterial, antimalarial, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, sedative-hypnotic, antidepressant, analgesic, cytotoxic, anticonvulsant [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ].…”
