L’objectif de cet article est de comprendre la circulation des fausses nouvelles en examinant l’effet de la redocumentarisation en ligne et la création de contenu ayant l’apparence du vrai sans pourtant être vérifié. Nous avons identifié les comptes qui ont produit les contenus les plus populaires ou ayant circulé le plus dans le contexte du « Convoi canadien de la liberté » sur Instagram au début de l’année 2022. Nous proposons une analyse des contenus autour des deux hashtags les plus utilisés lors de la manifestation et une taxonomie des démentis publiés par les médias et les sites spécialisés en démontages des infox.

Effectively learning to evaluate sources, especially when conducting online research, is an essential skill for middle‐grade students. This article argues that supporting students in learning to evaluate sources must involve using critical consciousness skills to do so, or the evaluation is incomplete. In the article, the authors expand the critical online reasoning and evaluation (CORE) framework to support students in learning to read in a critically conscious way. Critical consciousness is a key means for students to use in learning and solidifying critical literacy skills, and this focus is essential if we are to support students in learning to “read the word and the world.”

How fact-checkers delimit their scope of practices and use sources: Comparing professional and partisan practitioners

Fact-checkers, as their names suggest, are supposedly agents who check the validity of “facts.” But in reality, how do fact-checkers delimit the scope of their practices? What sources do they use to establish the truth and falsity of the examined materials? Do the practices of different types of fact-checkers vary in these aspects? This study examines how professional and partisan fact-checkers deal with facticity during a protest movement in Hong Kong. The content analysis shows that partisan fact-checkers, when compared to professional fact-checkers, are less likely to restrict themselves to debunking factual claims, and they are more likely to provide no source information for the materials used. Posts addressing “misleading claims,” as opposed to factual claims, are where partisan inclinations are more clearly exhibited. Moreover, partisan fact-checkers used government information in ways consistent with their political predilection. Implications of the findings on our understanding of the fact-checking enterprise are discussed.
