The analysis of the matrix heat exchanger effectiveness

Abstract: The goal of this paper is to establish the optimal operating regime of the observed perforated plate air/water heat exchanger in a wide range of parameters. The experimental investigation was carried out in a package of three perforated plates which were placed in the experimental chamber and heated by hot water. A fan with the variable air volume flow was connected to the experimental chamber, so the air flow rates varied from 100 to 300 m 3 /h, while the water flow varied from 0.03 to 0.06 m 3 /h. The thermo… Show more

“…Theory and established numerical model One of the goals of this research is to establish a reliable numerical model of a mesh-based CFHEX, which will allow the designer to size such CFHEXs for a range of applications, including the remote cooling and space Reverse Turbo-Brayton cooler applications of interest. Most early approaches for numerical modelling of metal-screen CFHEXs were based on ϵ-NTU relations, where the significant changes in solid and fluid properties at low temperatures were neglected [77,81]. Later attempts were made to treat mesh screens as fins and to discretise CFHEXs to account for the effects of axial conduction, parasitic heat loads and property variation [82].…”
