The Analysis of Arterial Stiffness in Heart Failure Patients: The Prognostic Role of Pulse Wave Velocity, Augmentation Index and Stiffness Index

Abstract: Background: The role of arterial stiffness in the pathogenesis and clinical outcome of heart failure (HF) patients has to be clarified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic role of arterial stiffness in HF patients discharged after acute episode of decompensation by evaluating cut-off values for clinical assessment. Methods: Patients admitted for decompensated heart failure (ADHF) underwent pre-discharge evaluation. Arterial stiffness was measured by aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV), augmentat… Show more

“…There have been some reports about prognostic parameters in Group 2 PH, such as PVR, LA stiffness, and BNP level, based on baseline data 15,19,20 . In recent years, increasing efforts have also been made to establish the reliable assessment of provocation testing in order to obtain additional diagnostic data.…”

Originally, the NO vasoreactivity test was recommended for patients with Group 1 PH to evaluate pulmonary arterial function or to predict responsiveness to calcium blockers.…”

55,5 %, central PP ≥ 50 mmHg -in 16,6 %, high AS gradient -in 70,3 %.…”

“…Due to the direct relation between PWV and E, PWV is the most commonly measured index of arterial stiffness and is a robust marker for future cardiovascular events (Kim et al 2020, Sequí-Domínguez et al 2020, Kim et al 2022, Marin et al 2022. In medical practice, some serious pathological deviations associated with the state of the vascular walls are diagnosed using measured PWV values, and the dynamics of their development is monitored (Crim et al 2020, Demir et al 2020, Mueller et al 2020, Filip et al 2021, Anastasio et al 2022, Helleputte et al 2022.…”
