The Amsterdam Acute Aneurysm Trial: Suitability and Application Rate for Endovascular Repair of Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Abstract: In this prospective cohort of all patients with a RAAA in the Amsterdam Acute Aneurysm Trial region, the suitability for endovascular repair in patients with a RAAA confirmed on CTA is 45.8%, but the application rate was lower.

“…Despite of the technical development in EVAR, rAAA is still a difficult challenge especially in patients with hostile anatomy and unstable hemodynamics. Hoornweg et al [20] reviewed 83 rAAA patients in which 45 (54.2%) were unsuitable for EVAR because of the anatomy such as unfavorable infrarenal neck or iliac arteries. While EVAR may be feasible for rAAA repairment, randomizing patients to EVAR or open surgery for rAAA was hard to perform.…”

“…However this is often associated with a delay in time-consuming preoperative CT angiography. Suitable morphology is presented in only half of these patients 44 . A comparison of the results of surgical and endovascular treatment is very difficult.…”
