The Amidine Based Colorimetric Sensor for Fe3+, Fe2+, and Cu2+ in Aqueous Medium

Abstract: An amidine based chemosensor AM-1 was synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic (FT-IR, (1)H-NMR and mass) data and elemental analyses. Sensor AM-1 exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe(3+), Fe(2+) and Cu(2+) in the presence of other surveyed ions (such as Sr(2+), Cr(3+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Ag(+), Al(3+), Ba(2+), Ca(2+), Cd(2+), Cs(+), Hg(2+), K(+), Li(+), Mg(2+), Mn(2+), Na(+) and Pb(2+)) with a distinct naked-eye detectable color change and a shift in the absorption band. “…Ferrocene was used as internal reference. HOMO and LUMO levels were estimated from the onset ( E ons ) of oxidation or reduction peak, respectively, on the basis of the reference energy level of ferrocene (4.8 eV below the vacuum level) with the equations HOMO/LUMO= true(EonsEfertrue)4.8 eV …”

“…have gained enormous attention due to metabolic and biological importance of these transition metal ions [1][2][3]. Among the various kinds of chemical sensors, fluorescent sensors or probes for detection of metal ions have received increasing interest due to their high sensivity, inherent simplicity, fast analysis with spatial resolution, and its sample/cell non-destructive nature [4][5][6].…”

“…Hence, diverse colorimetric chemosensors have been developed to recognize iron and cobalt such as amidine, dansyl‐styrylquinoline, fluoran and terpyridine‐based iron sensors and rhodamine, dithizone, Schiff base, coumarin and quinolone‐based cobalt sensors . However, there is still a need to develop new sensors with low detection limit that can detect iron and cobalt in aqueous solution.…”
