Comparative rolling ContaCt Behavior of two apS CoatingS with Different matrixin this study we analyzed the rolling contact fatigue behavior of two types of coatings made by thermal coating, by the method of atmospheric plasma spraying (aPS) from two commercially available powders: ni5al5mo and al 2 o 3 -13 tio 2 . the contact fatigue behavior was studied on an installation specially designed. the specimens were tested for 54 hours (at 1380 rpm), at a load of 944 n. For both types of coatings, the appearance of a wear path was observed, much more obvious in the case of the ni matrix layer, also confirmed by profilometry. the mechanism of the wear phenomenon was predominantly of plastic deformation type (the material was pushed towards the edges of the wear path) in the case of nialmo coating. in the case of ceramic coating, the wear path width was very small (300-450 μm), with very few changes at the surface level of the coating, which recommends this type of material for applications that require wear resistance to rolling.

Electrochemical Evaluation of AISI 420 Steel after Several Heat Treatments

The paper deals with the study of the electrochemical behavior of a heat treated AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel, usually used on surgical instruments. According to the alloy composition we designed the heat treatment procedures with specific parameters in order to enhance the properties of the alloy. The heat treatments involved are: Annealing at 770 • C with maintaining 20 min followed by slow cooling in furnace; martensitic quenching at 1000 • C with maintaining 30 min followed by rapid cooling in water, and high tempering at 700 • C with maintaining for 60 min followed by free cooling in open air. The characterization of electrochemical behavior of AISI 420 steel was done in a 0.5 M NaCl aqueous solution. The study concluded that by applying high tempering a decrease of hardness and an increase of mechanical properties is obtained. Also high tempering induces a better corrosion resistance for our studied alloy.
