The ALMaQUEST Survey. VII. Star Formation Scaling Relations of Green Valley Galaxies

Abstract: We utilize the ALMA-MaNGA QUEnch and STar formation (ALMaQUEST) survey to investigate the kpc-scale scaling relations, presented as the resolved star-forming MS (rSFMS: ΣSFR versus Σ*), the resolved Schmidt–Kennicutt relation (rSK: ΣSFR versus Σ … Show more

“…The dearth of galaxies in the transitional region, which is known as the "green valley" (GV) region (Martin et al 2007;Salim et al 2007;Schiminovich et al 2007;Wyder et al 2007;Salim 2014), indicates that the migration from blue cloud to red sequence is relatively rapid (Martin et al 2007). Therefore, investigations of intermediate galaxies residing in this transitional region can give insights into galaxy evolution (e.g., Schawinski et al 2014;Gu et al 2018;Suess et al 2021;Lin et al 2022).…”

“…Although we do not pre-select galaxies based on their spectral classification or based on the position on the M * -SFR or color-magnitude diagrams, as a matter of fact passive galaxies are essentially excluded by the spaxels selection requirements as well as the requirements on the H𝛼 signal-to-noise and EW outlined below. However, many star forming regions in green valley galaxies are retained by our selection (see Lin et al 2022, where they show that there are a considerable number of star forming spaxels in the ALMaQUEST green valley sample).…”

“…We use an uncertainty of 0.15 dex for the integrated stellar masses based on uncertainty estimates from Pace et al (2019). We also plot the star-forming main-sequence sample of 12 galaxies from ALMaQUEST, which have a specific star formation rate (sSFR) > 10 −10.5 yr −1 (Lin et al 2022). The main-sequence sample (hereafter, star forming) also excludes the 12 ALMaQUEST galaxies selected specifically for their starburst properties in Ellison et al (2020), making up the ALMaQUEST starburst sample.…”
