The Algorithm and Simulation of Multi-Objective Sequence and Balancing Problem for Mixed Mode Assembly Line

Abstract: In order to solve the balancing problem of product processing in a mixed flow assembly line, a modified genetic algorithm is proposed to optimize the instantaneous load and average load in the assembly line. An improved discrete particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to address the disordered and inefficient sequencing problem in processing products in an assembly line. Through a comprehensive consideration of the operating sequence, minimum production cycle, and the average load and instantaneous load … Show more

“…Although using simulation tool in scheduling for the robotic cell has not been done so far, a comprehensive survey of scheduling on flexible manufacturing systems and analyzing future trend that employed simulation techniques as the analysing tool has been done in [55]. Literature review reveals some latest studies on the application of simulation in manufacturing systems such as simulating mass and small batch production [56], incremental sheet forming [57], and product processing in a mixed flow assembly line [58]. Kikolski [59] investigated some production scenarios using simulation models, built in a Tecnomatix Plant Simulation system.…”

“…A large stand-alone library helps users to pick up the most appropriate elements for modelling the desired layouts easily. In the literature, there are some studies on the use of simulation in manufacturing systems such as [31][32][33][34] and so on. Also, as an appropriate document in application category, a comprehensive review of articles involving simulation in manufacturing between 2002 and 2013 has been provided in [35].…”

“…In other words, the purpose of line balancing is to assign work elements to each assigned workstation in a manner that every workstation has approximately the same amount of work to be done. Some modified genetic algorithms have been proposed to solve the balancing problems [11][12][13].…”
