The algebra of slice functions

Abstract: In this paper we study some fundamental algebraic properties of slice functions and slice regular functions over an alternative * -algebra A over R. These recently introduced function theories generalize to higher dimensions the classical theory of functions of a complex variable. Slice functions over A, which comprise all polynomials over A, form an alternative * -algebra themselves when endowed with appropriate operations. We presently study this algebraic structure in detail and we confront with questions a… Show more

“…A different approach has been used in [10,Proposition 3.2]. A complete treatment has been given in [22,Section 2] in the case of slice functions, which subsumes the case of slice monogenic functions. In order to make our presentation self-contained, we provide here a detailed proof of Proposition 2.14.…”

“…In this paper we prove some new relations between the Cauchy-Riemann operator, the spherical Dirac operator, the Laplacian operator and the class of slice-regular functions on a Clifford algebra. Slice-regular functions constitute a recent but rapidly expanding function theory in several hypercomplex settings, including quaternions and real Clifford algebras (see [11,7,12,10,16,17]). This class of functions was introduced by Gentili and Struppa [11] in 2006-2007 for functions of one quaternionic variable.…”

“…This approach to slice regularity can be pursued on an ample class of real algebras. Here we recall the basic definitions and refer to [12,16] for details and other references. Let A be a real alternative algebra with unity e. The real multiples of e in A are identified with the real numbers.…”
