The Aging Performance of PVDF in Acid Oil and Gas Medium

Abstract: In the process of transporting oil and gas, the service performance of thermoplastic pipes will decline due to the multiple influences of medium, temperature, and pressure. In order to study the service performance changes of PVDF pipes under oil and gas transportation conditions, the high-temperature autoclave is used to simulate the service state of the pipe in the mediums. The PVDF samples are exposed to simulated oil and gas mediums for 1 week, 3 weeks, 5 weeks, and 7 weeks under 60 °C and 90 °C conditions… Show more

“…This stress concentration is due to the huge strength difference between them. In long-term use, stress concentration may cause some potential problems, such as accelerated glue peeling and PVDF fracture [ 17 ]. Although these issues do not affect measurements in the laboratory environment, they should be considered in practical long-term applications of embedded PVDF.…”

“…Plastic pipes are now becoming an essential part of China's plastics industry 1 . In the field of chemical fluid transportation, high‐density polyethylene (HDPE), 2 polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), 3 and nylon (PA) 4 are the commonly used raw materials of the plastic pipes. However, the resistance of HDPE to organic solvents is poor, so would cause the serious leakage problems during the long‐term transportation and result in the environmental pollution 5 .…”
