The aesthetic management of a midline diastema with direct composite using digital smile design, putty index and button shade technique: A case report

Abstract: Background: A diastema is the distance or space between two or more adjacent teeth. This abnormality can interfere with the aesthetics of a patient, and 97% of diastemas occur in the maxilla. Various treatments can be performed for diastema closure in patients, one of which is composite resin restoration. Purpose: To explain the aesthetic procedure for diastema closure. Case: A 20-year-old female patient presented with complaints of the distance between her anterior teeth (Class I Angle occlusion with normal o… Show more

“…It has been stated that, in the specific areas in which the tensile stress is greater, there is a higher possibility a fracture will occur. 6,9,15,22,23 Based on the previous studies conducted, it was taken into consideration that, for primary teeth, the masticatory forces are within the range of 161-330 N. 11,[24][25][26][27] For the application on the stressbearing areas, this study considered a mean force of 245 N to replicate physiologic masticatory forces. The application of loading forces was done with different angulations.…”

“…The intracanal medication used was calcium hydroxide, which optimally provides a highly alkaline environment with a pH value of 12, has anti-inflammatory actions, neutralizes acid and exotoxin, and induces cell differentiation, ultimately leading to periapical healing. 24,25 When the patient no longer complained, the root canal was obturated with an AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer. After the endodontic restoration, a definitive onlay restoration was done using lithium disilicate material.…”

“…Causes of midline diastema have been considered to be multifactorial, including thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or lip sucking. Dental malformations such as proclination in the maxillary incisor, jaw discrepancy, and imperfect fusion of the dental septum can cause an unaesthetic smile, phonetic disorders, and interference in maintaining oral hygiene [ 1 ].…”
