The Active Magnetorheological Support as an Element of Damping of Vibrations Transferred from the Ground to Large-Scale Structure Supports

Abstract: The active support of a large-scale structure, made up of two elements was designed and manufactured. The first of them - piezoelectric actuator, enables the simulations of vibrations transferred from the ground to the structure. In order to minimize vibrations transmitted through the ground to the construction, the second element of the active support - a system based on magnetorheological dampers was used. The active support enables the simulations of vibrations from the ground using a piezoelectric stack co… Show more

“…In authors opinion, special granular structures can compete with other popular "smart" materials such as MR fluids. A typical example of a practical engineering application of the investigated structures would be a granular controllable damper used for minimizing risks associated with earthquakes [25] or a part of a bumper minimizing harmful effects resulting in a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian [26].…”

“…[3][4][5] Recently, many other investigations (cf. previous studies [6][7][8][9][10] for example) provided additional know-how on developing effective vehicle, train, or aircraft active or semi-active suspension systems with the use of different smart materials. It should be noted that many modern active and semi-active vibration or isolation systems utilize also standard materials, that is, hydraulic dampers controlled by electromagnetic or piezoelectric valves.…”
