“…Enflurane caused an increase in CBF in two investigations in dogs (Michenf elder and Cucchiara, 1974;Takasaki, 1974), but in another there was no significant change (Sakabe, 1975), possibly because of the decrease in arterial pressure associated with the administration of enflurane. In patients with subacute or chronic ischaemic brain lesions 1% enflurane caused a decrease in CBF (Reinhold et al, 1974(Reinhold et al, , 1976, and in patients with head injury in whom the MAP was maintained with phenylephrine, 1% enflurane had no effect on global CBF or the regional distribution of CBF (De Rood et al, 1980a, b). In normal patients 2% enflurane has no effect on CBF (Van Aken, Hautekiet and Roily, 1977;Roily and Van Aken, 1979).…”

“…In maa, however, most workers found that the administration of enflurane had very little effect on ICP and CBF provided that ACO2 remained constant. Nevertheless, certain investigations have shown substantial increases in ICP in a proportion of patients (McLeskey et al, 1974;Reinhold et al, 1974Reinhold et al, , 1976Zattoni, Siani and Rivano, 1974;Stullken and Sokoll, 1975;Cunitz, Danhauser and Grub, 1976;Van Aken, Hautekiet and Roily, 1977;Roily and Van Aken, 1979;Schulte am Esch et al, 1979;De Rood et al, 1980a, b;Ewalenko de Toeuf et al, 1980). In addition, however, enflurane causes a considerable decrease in arterial pressure and thus decreases cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP).…”
