The accuracy and reliability of preoperative digital 2D templating in prosthesis size prediction in uncemented versus cemented total hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy and the inter- and intra-observer reliability of preoperative digital 2D templating in prosthesis size prediction for the planning of cemented or uncemented THA. This study was registered in the NIHR PROSPERO database (ID: CRD42020216649) and conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. A search of electronic databases in March 2021 found 29 papers overall. The quality of evidence was assessed using the IHE Quality Appraisal of Case Series Studies Checklis… Show more

“…The accuracy was higher for the preoperative templating results using the deep learning-based prototype software developed by the authors than with previously used 2-D acetate methods. The results were consistent with those reported in recently published meta-analysis studies [58], [59]. The accuracy of the proposed method is acceptable considering its automation and completion within 30 s; the methods used in the meta-analysis are manual and require more time.…”

“…± is acceptable at 78.9% for the AC and 70.9% for the FC. This result is reasonable compared with the meta-analysis of existing templating methods [58], [59]. As a result of the proposed method for all prostheses, ± was 36.1%, which is higher than 35% (min=25%; max=36%) of 2D acetate and lower than 48% (min=43%; max=61%) of 2D digital.…”
