“…In contrast, combined exposure to CPC and 60-mg/L ZIF-NPs did not significantly increase the MDA level in zebrafish larvae; even this mixture significantly elevated their ROS level and decreased their T-SOD activity. A possible explanation is the dose-specific effects of ZIF-NPs on organisms, which have been well documented by recent studies [11,44,45]. Another possible explanation is that the interactions between components in mixtures exhibit complex effects on their joint toxicity, which is affected by many factors, such as the combination of a mixture, their dose level, dose ratio, and others [46,47].…”

“…The formation mechanism of the novel 3D mesoporous ZIF-8-Cu and β-G@ZIF-8-Cu was tested by XPS. The N 1s peaks of the complex ZIF-8-Cu and β-G@ZIF-8-Cu were significantly shifted toward a high binding energy (398.9 to 399.2 eV and 399.0 to 399.3 eV) compared to pure ZIF-8 and β-G@ZIF-8 (Figures b and S5b), which indicated that the N was coordinated with Cu and a new Cu–N bond was generated. , In addition, for the absorption peak of the entire imidazole ring, the absorption peak at 1311 cm –1 was markedly enhanced with the introduction of CuCl, further confirming the coordination between Cu and N (Figures d and S6). The formation of a new coordinate covalent bond was bound to affect the original coordination, so the chemical environment of Zn was tested by XPS.…”

“…Hu et al [15] have reported that ZIF-8 nanoparticles induce neurobehavioral disorders through the regulation of ROS-mediated oxidative stress in zebrafish embryos, and Chen et al [16] have found that oxidative damage was one of the main reasons for changing the behavioral responses to light-to-dark transitions in zebrafish larvae exposed to nanoplastics. Moreover, Yang et al [17] also found that exposure to ZIF-8 NPs induced oxidative stress behaviors similar to the hormesis effect in the tissues of the Asian clam (Corbicula fluminea (O. F. Müller, 1774)). Thus, oxidative stress induced by nanoparticles can be considered one of the important mechanisms for their toxic effects.…”
