Abstract:Consecutive oxygenation of arachidonic acid by 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) yields the hemiketal (HK) eicosanoids, HKE2 and HKD2. HKs stimulate angiogenesis by inducing endothelial cell tubulogenesis in culture; however, how this process is regulated has not been determined. Here, we identify vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) as a mediator of HKE2-induced angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. HKE2 treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells dose-dependently incr… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
