The 2014 Northern Thailand Mw 6.1 Earthquake and its Seismogenic Tectonics

and Pu'er of Yunnan (China). When the earthquake happened, we were walking in a supermarket in Chiang Mai and feeling intense vibration of the buildings. When the vibration stopped, we decided to drive immediately to the epicenter and conduct field investigation on the destruction of the quake.Historical seismicity shows that strong earthquakes like this have never occurred in Thailand, therefore it was long believed that Thailand was in an aseismic zone. According to the historical seismic catalogue of Thailand, only a few earthquakes were reported (e.g.,
