TH-E-AUD-04: Determination of Exit Skin Dose for MammoSite(R) RTS with TLD

Abstract: Purpose: To accurately determine the exit skin dose from MammoSite® Radiation Therapy System treatments using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) placed on the surface of the skin during each treatment fraction. Methods and Materials: Well‐characterized TLD‐100 chips were calibrated using 137Cs to establish an energy response correction factor for 192Ir measurements. TLD response vs. material thickness was measured and compared for thicknesses of Virtual Water™ and breast‐equivalent material from 2 to 10cm. Mo… Show more

“…A full source model of the Varian VariSource 2000 source was created by Raffi et al 27 To measure the uncertainty associated with using an isotropic point source with an emitted spectrum ͑determined by Borg and Rogers 20 ͒, simulations were run with the full source model with a spectrum derived from the table of isotopes. Simulations with the full source model were run in both the spherical water phantom and in the actual VW phantom geometries.…”
