TGF-β1 induces HMGA1 expression: The role of HMGA1 in thyroid cancer proliferation and invasion

Abstract: The role of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is complicated and plays a different role in the development of cancer. High mobility group A (HMGA1) participates in multiple cellular biology processes, and exerts important roles in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). However, the correlation of TGF-β1 and HMGA1 in cancer cells is not yet fully understood. In this study, we determined the effects of TGF-β1 on HMGA1 expression in thyroid cancer cells and examined the role of HMGA1 in thyroid cancer … Show more

“…[70] Interestingly, combinations of CD complexes with other host/guest motifs in an orthogonal fashion were also examined, for example, with cucurbit [8]uril [71] or bis(sulfonate)calix [4]arene. [72] Wei and co-workers reported ab lock copolymer consisting of blocks of supramolecular polymer and PEG. [73] In this case, a b-CD-ferrocene AB monomer was utilized to form asupramolecular polymer and am onoferrocene end functionalized PEG was utilized as the chain stopper.R edox-responsive micelles and vesicles could be formed from the polymer structures depending on the ratio of the stopper to AB monomer.Asupramolecular polymer solely based on CD, namely supramolecular polymers of a-CD-azides in the solid state, was presented by Sollogoub and co-workers.…”

“…For example, the association between CHI3L1 and transforming growth factor β1 (TGFB1) in TC was identified. YKL-40, also known as chitinase-3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1), is a secreted glycoprotein that binds to interleukin-13 receptor α2 (IL-13Rα2) and subsequently stimulates the production of TGF-β1 (27), a key molecule in thyroid carcinogenesis and considered as a new prognostic and therapeutic target for TC (28,29). The details for all other associations are presented in Fig.…”

“…Moreover, HMGA1 can modulate gene expression by altering the chromatin structure and orchestrating the assembly of transcription factor complexes to augment target gene promoter activity (42). Furthermore, HMGA1 markedly facilitates the proliferation of several types of cancer cells, such as pancreatic cancer (36), breast cancer (47), ovarian cancer (48), colon cancer (49) and thyroid cancer (21). Additionally, cyclin D1 also regulates cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)4 and CDK6 to promote cell cycle transition from the G1 to the S phase (50-52).…”

“…High-mobility group A1 (HMGA1) is a transcription factor which plays a crucial role in regulation of gene expression and biological process (18,19). Emerging evidence has indicated the significant upregulation of HMGA1 expression in several malignant types of cancer, such as bladder cancer, thyroid cancer and NSCLC (20)(21)(22), and the overexpression of HMGA1 has also been shown to positively correlate with the cell proliferation and malignant status of NSCLC (23,24). Reportedly, cyclin D1 is widely overexpressed in certain types of human cancer, and several growth factors, such as epidermal growth factor (EGF) markedly enhance cancer cell proliferation by increasing cyclin D1 expression (25,26).…”
