Texture zeros of low-energy Majorana neutrino mass matrix in 3+1 scheme

Abstract: In this work we revisit the zero textures in low energy Majorana neutrino mass matrix when the active neutrino sector is extended by a light sterile neutrino in the eV scale i.e., the 3+1 scheme. In 3+1 scenario, the low energy neutrino mass matrix (mν ) has ten independent elements. Thus in principle one can have minimum one-zero texture to maximum ten-zero texture. We summarize the previous results of one, two, three and four-zero textures which already exist in the literature and present our new results on … Show more

“…Texture zeros in 3 + 1 neutrino scenarios were discussed in different contexts earlier using flavour symmetries like Z N , U (1) etc. [51,53,54] but here we show that some of these textures can be realised (upto a few more constraints) just from the vacuum alignment of A 4 triplet flavons. We first make the classifications for allowed and disallowed textures based on already known texture results in 3 + 1 neutrino frameworks [51,53,[59][60][61][62] and then numerically analyse some of the textures which have not been studied before.…”

“…[64], however, the active-sterile neutrino mass and mixing has not been addressed. 1 In other recent works, activesterile neutrino mass and mixing have been considered with A 4 [66,68,90,104,105], D 4 [77] and texture zeros with Z N [87,92,95]. To our best knowledge S 3 symmetry has not been considered before in the 3 + 1 neutrino scheme with B − L model.…”
