Textural Characterization and Energetics of Porous Solids by Adsorption Calorimetry

Abstract: An adsorption microcalorimeter was designed and built in our laboratory and used for the determination of differential adsorption heats in different samples of porous solids: activated carbon granules, activated carbon pellets, an activated carbon monolith and a zeolite sample. This work shows the relationship between adsorption heat and the pore size of different porous solids using adsorption of NH 3 , CO and N 2 O. The result shows that the thermal effect can be related with textural properties and superfic… Show more

“…Mesoporous silica has emerged as an ideal supporting material for many types of NPs because of its controllable pore size and shape as well as its large surface area. Various mesoporous silica materials, including SBA-15, 235,236,239,242,284 MCM-41, 216 MCM-48, 285 and KIT-6, 240 have been used to support Cu NPs. For example, Moreno-Pirajań and co-workers prepared Cu nanocatalysts confined in SBA-15 via an in situ reduction process.…”

“…For example, Moreno-Pirajań and co-workers prepared Cu nanocatalysts confined in SBA-15 via an in situ reduction process. 235 A more sophisticated method based on MW irradiation was used to synthesize Cu NPs supported on ZnO/SBA-15. 284 Gutierrez et al have reported the reduction of copper chloride in the presence of mesoporous silica support MCM-41 to yield MCM-41-supported Cu NPs.…”

“…Sandeman et al examined the adsorption of anionic Methyl Orange, cationic Methylene Blue and Congo Red using a porous poly(vinyl alcohol)/AC composite [37]. All these works highlight that the adsorption behavior of carbon materials is influenced by several parameters such as their surface chemical groups and their reactivity [38,39], textural characteristics [40] and the composition of the lignocellulosic precursors [41,42].…”
