Textile protectionism in the united states: an empirical examination

Abstract: Recent U.S. textile and apparel imports were examined at a detailed product level to assess factors explaining the level of non-tariff trade barriers ( N T B s ) . Determinants of N T B s at the micro level were consistentwith prior studies utilizing more aggregated data. Import penetration, per unit import cost, import quantity chatzge, import valae, and prodact type were significant variables in explaining the variability of import controls.
