Abstract: Flaps are mainly used for wound repair. However, postoperative ischemic necrosis of the distal flap is a major problem, which needs to be addressed urgently. We evaluated whether tetrandrine, a compound found in traditional Chinese medicine, can prolong the survival rate of random skin flaps. Thirty‐six rats were randomly divided into control, low‐dose tetrandrine (25 mg/kg/day), and high‐dose tetrandrine (60 mg/kg/day) groups. On postoperative Day 7, the flap survival and average survival area were determined… Show more

“…Existing experiments indicate that tetrandrine from dried root of Stephania tetrandra S. Moore significantly elevates the cAMP (a cellular second messenger) concentration in inflammatory leukocytes and inhibits phosphodiesterase (PDE) activity, thereby exhibiting anti-inflammatory activity [ 133 ]. Tetrandrine also promotes tissue repair by regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, inhibiting apoptosis, and reducing inflammatory responses [ 134 ]. (A summary of other types with hemorrhoid improvement potential is provided in Table 5 , and chemical structures are shown in Figure 5 ).…”
