“…[10] Step The approach based on the reactions shown in Equations (3)-(5)h as resulted in the entire series of "dead mass"free unsolvated alkali metal yttrium borohydrides M (3) [Y(BH 4 ) 4 ] (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, or Cs). “…In both cases the organic precursors are easily extracted with a solvent such as CH 2 Cl 2 , CHCl 3 , or toluene, in which metal halides are not soluble 18. Inorganic mixed‐cation borohydrides are prepared in step C, which involves a metathesis reaction in CH 2 Cl 2 ,…”

“…Our preliminary results indicate that the method described here may easily be transferred to other combinations of metal (M 2 , M 3 ) and organic ([ Cat ]) cations, because soluble complex borohydrides, [ Cat ] y [M 2 (BH 4 ) z ], have been reported for selected metals M 2 , for example, [Ph 4 P][Zn(BH 4 ) 3 ], [Ph 4 P] 2 [Mg(BH 4 ) 4 ], [Et 4 N][Al(BH 4 ) 4 ] 23. These compounds can be conveniently synthesized either in solvent‐mediated reactions, or in a one‐pot mechanochemical process followed by the extraction as for [ Cat ][Y(BH 4 ) 4 ] 18. These organic mixed‐cation borohydrides are typically more thermally stable than the parent metal borohydrides,1b which further facilitates their use for the synthesis of M 3 y [M 2 (BH 4 ) z ] 11.…”

“…Numerous related borohydrides of other metals with tridentate BH 4 groups have been prepared in the past, e.g. Zr(BH 4 ) 4 , Hf(BH 4 ) 4 , MSc(BH 4 ) 4 (M = Li, Na, K; Broach et al, 1983;Hagemann et al, 2008;Č erný, Ravnsbaek et al, 2010;Č erný, Severa et al, 2010) and MY(BH 4 ) 4 [M = K, Rb, Cs, (CH 3 ) 4 N or (n-C 4 H 9 ) 4 N; Jaroń & Grochala, 2011;Jaroń et al, 2012Jaroń et al, , 2013. The M + cations in (I) and (II) are coordinated by six BH 4 groups, forming a compressed octahedron.…”
