Tetra-n-butylammonium di-μ-hydroxo-bis[dinitratodioxouranate(VI)]

Abstract: From an aqueous solution of uranyl nitrate hexahydrate and tetra‐n‐butylammonium nitrate, single crystals of the title compound, (C16H36N)2[U2(NO3)4(OH)2O4], were obtained. The structure features a dimeric hydroxo‐bridged tetranitratodihydroxobis[dioxouranate(VI)] dianion.

“…A search of the Cambridge Crystallographic Database [19] found only 10 other examples of this dimer [20] such as the representative example reported by Perry obtained at low pH from a mixture of imidazole and uranyl nitrate. [5] In all literature reported cases the counter cation is relatively large, for example imidazolium, [5] tetrabutylammonium, [21] or 4,4Ј-dipyridinium. [22] This makes sense given that the small charge to size ratio found for these and many IL cations can reduce the electrostatic interaction between the large uranyl dimers and effectively pack in space.…”

“…Compound 1 crystallized in the triclinic space group P 1̅ (Table ) and consists of two [Bmim] + cations and two half [(UO 2 ) 2 (μ-OH) 2 (NO 3 ) 4 ] 2– anions in an asymmetric unit. Compounds with [(UO 2 ) 2 (μ-OH) 2 (NO 3 ) 4 ] 2– anions have been extensively studied with various countercations, such as imidazolium, , ammonium, and pyridinium . The compound 1 [Bmim] + cations with G′T and TE′ conformations, which maintain specific cation–anion interactions (Table S3, Supporting Information), could be compared with previous well-illustrated structures that have demonstrated the counterions [Mmim] + , [Emim] + , and [Emmim] + .…”
