“…Similar with the urinary tract, the OCT is applied in the digestive tract in vivo with the assistance of endoscope or during operation. The capsule endomicroscopy is also used in OCT detection recently, whose coverage of upper GI wall, esophagus and duodenum is 85.4%, 90.3% and 84.8% [38].…”

“…OCT capsule studies demonstrated cross-sectional images, reported excellent patient toleration 17 and showed correlations with endoscopic Prague measurements. 18 However, there are limited investigations of capsule contact with the oesophagus and longitudinal pullback non-uniformity, which reduce image coverage and cause sampling errors. Procedural details for tethered OCT capsule imaging in unsedated patients have also been limited.…”

“…5,6 This swallowable OCT-based capsule could discriminate efficiently between squamous esophagus and BE with or without dysplasia in a well-tolerated manner. 7 An automated segmentation and characterization algorithm 8 and the upcoming tethered capsule laser marking device 9 may further push this technique to achieve clinical adoption.…”

“…Theoretically, TCE might be helpful in reducing interobserver variability and sampling error of patchy multifocal lesions. 7 In addition, accurate staging of superficial ESCC, 10 and subsequently appropriate triage could be incorporated into the initial TCE examination. Whether TCE would be a valuable complement to endoscopy or a successful independent ESCC screening strategy requires further validation in both high-risk and lowrisk populations.…”
