“…Testosterone has been shown to interact with endothelial NOS expressed in pelvic vessels, and consequently improve pelvic blood flow [23]. Some recent reports suggested that TRT may contribute to improving LUTS/OAB in men with LOH syndrome and BPH [8,9]. However, whether the greater increase in TT by dutasteride administration may have a potential role in LUTS and OAB under conditions of strongly suppressed DHT level has not been clarified.…”

“…Prostate volume is known to increase along with the progressive decline in testosterone level from middle age, reflecting the evolution of BPH and LUTS. Some recent studies suggested that testosterone levels may be significantly correlated with LUTS, and that TRT can contribute to improvement of LUTS/OAB in men with LOH syndrome and BPH [8,9].…”

“…Because testosterone deficiency plays a key role in LOH, testosterone replacement therapy has been used to alleviate the symptoms of LOH. 5,8,9,32 To reveal the mechanism of decreased testosterone production in aged Leydig cells and possibly identify new therapies, we studied the effect of autophagic alteration on steroidogenesis in young and aged rat Leydig cells and TM3 mouse Leydig cells.…”

“…3 And testosterone replacement therapy can alleviate the symptoms and signs with a wide range of benefits that include improvement in libido and sexual function, bone density, muscle mass, body composition, mood, erythropoiesis, cognition, quality of life and cardiovascular disease. 2,[4][5][6][7][8] Serum testosterone levels decrease in aged males, and dysfunction of the aged Leydig cells might plays a key role in this process. [9][10][11] Androgen is mainly produced by Leydig cells and many enzymes, such as steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein, cholesterol sidechain cleavage enzyme (P450scc) and 3b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, are involved in regulation of testosterone production.…”

“…Thus, it has been speculated that TRT with Glowmin may be effective in the improvement of not only erectile dysfunction and TDS symptoms but also lower urinary tract symptoms (especially voiding disturbance) in Japanese patients with TDS. 56 No recommendations as to the duration of TRT have been made in the guidelines of the International Society of Andrology, the International Society for the Study of the Aging Male or the European Association of Urology. 57 If a patient with TDS does not benefit from TRT, discontinuation of TRT is accepted without question.…”
