Testing Mechanical Properties of Rock Bolt under Different Supports Using Fiber Bragg Grating Technology

Abstract: Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors, which can accurately measure strain, can be integrated with rock bolts with small fingerprints. In this paper, according to the force mechanism of prestressed anchor and non-prestressed anchor, different loading modes were designed, named active loading mode and passive loading mode. Then, FBG technology was used to monitor the axial force variation of prestressed anchor and non-prestressed anchor in different loading modes. Based on the test results, it is found that when th… Show more

“…In slope engineering, anchors bolts are divided into two categories: the prestressed anchors and the non-prestressed anchors; the former can also be called prestressed anchor cables if the reinforcement body consists of steel strands and wires, while the latter are often called full grouted bolts (Cheng et al, 2015). The prestressed anchor implements the pre-stress in advance is a sort of active supporting technology, while the non-prestressed anchor is activated by the deformation of the surrounding rock; this is a sort of passive supporting technology (Guo et al, 2019).…”

“…When the λ of the incident light of the fiber satisfies the Bragg diffraction condition, the expression is as follows [ 26 ]: where λ B is the center peak wavelength of fiber Bragg grating; n eff is the refractive index of the effective fiber core; and Λ is the grid distance between adjacent gratings, which is called the period of fiber gratings.…”

“…Globally, research is underway to address these problems. Studies have been conducted on methods for designing a shaft-style jack anchor to reduce the loss of tensile force in earth anchors [ 5 ], measuring anchor loads via load tests using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor attached to the surface of existing load cells [ 6 ], performing pull-out tests to observe the anchor behavior by installing anchors of different types (tension, compression, and composite anchors) at different depths [ 7 ], and measuring anchor prestressed force using wireless force sensors [ 8 ] and FBG sensors [ 9 , 10 ]. Domestic studies include the measurement of anchor axial force and changes in prestressed force using load cells on anchor heads [ 11 , 12 ] and the measurement of load transfer distribution of tension and compression anchors using strain gauges, embedded gauges, load cells, etc.…”
