Testing breast cancer serum biomarkers for early detection and prognosis in pre-diagnosis samples

Abstract: Background:Breast cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although mammography screening is available, there is an ongoing interest in improved early detection and prognosis. Herein, we have analysed a combination of serological biomarkers in a case–control cohort of sera taken before diagnosis. Methods:This nested case–control study within the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) used serum samples from 239 women who subsequently developed breast cancer and 239 m… Show more

“…Yumi Kim, et al Mastocheck for Screening of Breast Cancer mended blood test for the diagnosis of breast cancer, its value as a diagnostic or prognostic factor for various tumor markers based on blood tests is being studied [8][9][10][11]. We have developed a blood marker for breast cancer diagnosis using proteomic techniques through numerous experiments over 10 years using tissue, blood, and cell samples.…”

“…Despite the usefulness of Mammography in the diagnosis of breast cancer, it showed a limited sensitivity for the detection of tumors in dense breast tissue (Boyd et al, 2007). Therefore, there is an urgent need for biochemical and histological markers that can be used in the early diagnosis and prediction of the disease outcome in addition to the need for marker that provides a prognostic information to the clinician for treatment strati ication, so, various markers either biochemical or immunohistochemical were discovered and tested widely for this purpose (Kazarian et al, 2017).…”

“…However the benefit for women aged 40 to 49 is uncertain (5), and risk of false positive results and overdiagnosis are of concern (2, 4). Given that screening for specific cancers with certain noninvasive blood tests, such as CA125 for detecting ovarian cancer, could increase patient compliance and has already shown relatively good diagnostic performance (6,7), there also might be a possible approach for non-invasive early detection and/or risk stratification of breast cancer (7).…”
