Ternary Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) Based on Co‐, Cu‐Substituted ZnAl for the Design of Efficient Photocatalysts

Abstract: Co-, Cu-substituted ZnAl ternary layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were synthesized and explored as efficient photocatalysts for dye degradation. LDH materials were fully characterized with various methods including elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, which revealed that LDH materials were well crystallized without any amorphous phase as impurity. In addition, the plates of LDH were well dispersed, one plate being easily disting… Show more

“…The unique properties of LDHs could be attributed to their layered structure, narrow band gap and existence of different surface states of metals accompanied by oxygen vacancies. 5,6 Their general formula is [M2+1xM3+x(OH)2](An)x/nyH2O, where M 2+ and M 3+ represent divalent and trivalent cations, and A n− is the charge balancing interlayer anion. Titanium containing LDHs have received importance due to their remarkable ability in waste water treatment.…”

“…Further, in the same spectra, two more intense Raman peaks were visualised at 1062 and 152 cm −1 that correspond to symmetric stretching and translation vibration modes of intercalated CO 3 2− anions. 12,48 Apparently, the fingerprint D (disorder or sp 3 ) and G (graphitic or sp 2 ) bands of graphene oxide (GO) are clearly observed at 1344 and 1587 cm −1 in the spectra of GO and are in good accordance with the literature reports (Fig. 3b).…”
