Terbium(III), Europium(III), and Mixed Terbium(III)–Europium(III) Mucicate Frameworks: Hydrophilicity and Stoichiometry-Dependent Color Tunability

Abstract: Two 3D porous terbium(III) mucicate frameworks, {[Tb(2)(Mu(2-))(3)(H(2)O)(2)]·4H(2)O}(n) (1) and {[Tb(Mu(2-))(Ox(2-))(0.5)(H(2)O)]·H(2)O}(n) (2), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by changing the pH of the reaction medium. Isostructural europium(III) and seven mixed terbium(III)-europium(III) mucicates were synthesized by doping different percentages of Eu(III) under similar reaction conditions and unveiling different emission colors ranging from green to red under the same wavelength. Both d… Show more

“…[64][65][66] Generally, the mixed Eu/Tb compounds allow energy transfer in the mixed coordination polymers due to the optimal energy match between the lanthanide cations. [67][68][69][70][71][72] But tuneable emission can also arise when mixed Tb/Dy coordination compounds are used. 73 The ligand uorescence and Dy 3+ and Tb 3+ phosphorescence were thoroughly studied in the solid-state in the corresponding (Dy/Tb) solid solutions.…”

“…The possible reason might be the accumulation of solvent molecules inside the cage which cannot outflow easily during the desorption process. Complex 2 having amine decorated hydrophilic pore, adsorb more amount of water (219 cm 3 g −1 at P/P 0 =1) compare to 1 (180 cm 3 g −1 at P/P 0 =1), though they are isostructural in nature . As compared to others frameworks the hydroxyl functionalized isostructural frameworks 4 and 5 adsorb less amount of water (79 cm 3 g −1 and 66 cm 3 g −1 respectively, at P/P 0 =1) might be due to their smaller pore size.…”

“…40,41 The lifetimes of the 5 D 4 level was found to be 120 ms in 2, while a value of 99 ms was measured in 4. Also, the Eu III and Tb III emissions were found to be lower than those obtained in the single-emitting materials.…”
