Introduction: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder characterized mainly by ligament laxity and hypotonia. Infants with this syndrome have substantial motor retardation also with crawling. To reach this motor milestone, postural control and head and neck control in the prone position are necessary. Seeking to avoid atypical muscular synergies and facilitate the execution of functional activities, the Bobath Concept aims to stimulate weight transfers, promoting motor acquisitions in the prone, supine, sitting and standing positions. Objective: To evaluate and compare crawling before and after the intervention through the Bobath Concept method in infants with DS. Method: A longitudinal, prospective, evaluative and interventional study was carried out. The sample was composed of 4 infants with DS, aged 7 to 24 months. There were three stages of treatment: evaluation in accordance with the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS); short term intervention by the Bobath Concept; and re-evaluation using the same scale. Results: According to statistical analysis, there was no significant difference between pre- and post-treatment (t -3.1705, p=0.0504). However, the results obtained by evaluation and reevaluation, showed progress in infants’ activity, the greatest progress being in the prone position. Infant 4 had the most satisfactory result, in percentage, as much as in the prone position (evolving 9.5%), as in general (evolving 22.4%). Conclusion: Infants submitted to intervention with the Bobath Concept obtained evolution in motor development, when comparing before and after therapy.

Introduction: The Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic syndrome. Children with CdLS usually require physical therapy, however the efficacy of physical therapy intervention in this population is lacking in the research literature. Objective: The aim of this study was to report the effect of Intensive Neuromotor Therapy (INMT) on gross motor function and participation of a child with CdLS using the International Classification of Functioning, Disabilities and Health (ICF) model. Method: A Brazilian child with CdLS was followed for over seven months while undergoing three modules of INMT. Results: The child demonstrated an evolution of gross motor function with gains of 11.28% in the first module, 9.22% in the second module, and 10.29% in the third module of INMT. Conclusion: INMT resulted in improvements in gross motor function and participation during daily activities in a child with CDLS. Further studies of larger cohorts are needed to investigate the efficacy of INMT in children with CdLS.

Introdução: A Síndrome de Down consiste em uma alteração genética caracterizada pela presença de um cromossomo 21, adicional em todas as células do organismo do indivíduo, levando-o a apresentar várias características físicas e mentais específicas, além do atraso no desenvolvimento motor. Em relação a estimulação precoce, trata-se de uma técnica terapêutica que aborda diversos estímulos que podem interferir na maturidade infantil, a fim de incentivar e facilitar posturas que ajudarão a desenvolver o lado motor e cognitivo de crianças com algumas limitações, como a Síndrome de Down. Objetivo: Elucidar evidências que constatem os benefícios da estimulação precoce para criança com Síndrome de Down. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, por meio da análise e estudo em artigos publicados em revistas indexadas, entre os anos de 2018 e 2022, tendo como referência as bases de dados National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE), Scientific Eletrônic Library Online (SCIELO) e Google acadêmico. Resultados e discussão: Os autores desta revisão contribuíram substancialmente com a concepção de que, a estimulação pode intervir na maturação da criança e facilitar posturas que favoreçam o desenvolvimento motor e cognitivo de crianças com Síndrome de Down. Conclusão: Ficou evidente que a estimulação precoce é essencial para a maturação neural e global do desenvolvimento motor da criança com síndrome de Down.
