Terahertz substance imaging by waveform shaping

Abstract: Terahertz pulse shaping technique is used to adaptively design terahertz waveforms of enhanced spectral correlation to particular materials among a given set of materials. In a proof-of-principle experiment performed with a two-dimensional image target consisted of meta-materials of distinctive resonance frequencies, the as-designed waveforms are used to demonstrate terahertz substance imaging. It is hoped that this material-specific terahertz waveforms may enable single- or few-shot terahertz material classif… Show more

“…The absorption coefficient results show that at low irradiation doses (5 kGy), the absorption of the sample for terahertz does not change significantly, and it decreases significantly when the irradiation dose is larger than 15 kGy, And the absorption of the sample by continuing to increase the radiation dose will not change significantly. 43,44 This indicates that the terahertz absorption property of the irradiation for HMA needs to meet the irradiation dose to reach a certain threshold, and the continued increase of the irradiation dose after denaturation does not obviously affect its properties.…”

“…where τ is 2 ps for an appropriate bandwidth compatible with the proposed structure and T 0 is set to 8 ps, the same as previously used in Equation (3). As shown in Figures 10a,b, this approach has great accuracy and could replace the full-wave simulation analysis which is very time consuming.…”
