Tensin1 and a previously undocumented family member, tensin2, positively regulate cell migration

Abstract: Tensin is a focal adhesion molecule that binds to actin filaments and participates in signaling pathways. In this study, we have characterized a previously undocumented tensin family member, tensin2͞KIAA 1075. Human tensin2 cDNA encodes a 1,285-aa sequence that shares extensive homology with tensin1 at its amino-and carboxyl-terminal ends, which include the actin-binding domain, the Src homology 2 (SH2) domain, and the phosphotyrosine binding (PTB) domain. Analysis of the genomic structures of tensin1 and tens… Show more

“…1A). 16,17 Variants 1 and 2 are 1419-and 1409-amino-acid proteins, respectively. Each comprises a C1 domain of protein kinase C at the N terminus followed by a PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted from chromosome 10) homology region and SH2 (src homology 2) and PTB (phosphotyrosine binding) domains at the C terminus.…”

“…Tensin2 variant 3 (variant 3) has been shown to promote cell migration 16 and possibly is related to cell invasion, in the present study, we focused on the study of variant 3 in HCC, particularly its role in metastasis of HCC. Clinicopathological analysis of variant 3 expression revealed that overexpression of variant 3 in tumor tissue was associated with a more aggressive tumor phenotype and metastasis-related pathological features.…”

“…One protein that we identified, tensin2, is a putative cytoskeletal protein related in structure to tensin (5). Tensin is an interesting protein that is recruited to focal adhesions early during their formation.…”
