Tensile flow and stress–strain behavior over a wide temperature range for poly(butyl methacrylate) with a broad molecular weight distribution

Abstract: synopsisThe poly(buty1 methacrylate) studied is a polymer with a normal molecular weight distribution and a relatively low molecular weight close to M,, the critical molecular weight from the viscosity-molecular weight relation. The polymer was subjected to uniaxial extension and shear over a temperature range which included T,. It was found that in the region of T, an increase in applied stress is accompanied by a decrease both in the temperature shift factor u T and in the activation energy for relaxation an… Show more

“…A series of modified CNCs was successfully prepared; two different molecular weights of the grafted and adsorbed polymers (micelles and latex particles) were targeted. On the basis of the PBMA critical molecular weight for chain entanglement, M c,n of about 56 000 g mol −1 corresponding to a DP of 400, 34 targeted molecular weights of the PBMA-based polymers were selected to be above and below the M c,n , and the synthesized polymers were denoted long (L) and short (S), respectively. Surface Modification of CNCs.…”

“…In the block copolymers, i.e., micelles and latex particles, the PDMAEMA block length was kept constant while the molecular weight ( M n ) of the hydrophobic PBMA block was varied. Two different PBMA lengths were studied, aiming for M n above and below the critical molecular weight for chain entanglement of PBMA, ∼56 000 g mol –1 . To render it possible to perform reliable comparisons, it is crucial that samples prepared with different methods contain the same fraction of CNCs.…”
