“…Singapore, the smallest nation within Western Pacific region with a total population of only 5.9 million people, is uniquely diverse with different ethnics, but has only reported 50 patients with molecularly confirmed LDLR mutations 20) by nextgeneration sequencing method. Thailand and the Philippines have also respectively reported 45 and 20 molecularly confirmed FH patients using PCR and denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography methods to detect LDLR mutations, but their tendons at Achilles tendons, dorsal extensor of hands, elbows or knees 31) . Premature corneal arcus was visually identified by the presence of white opaque ring at the peripheral of cornea 32) in participants with age <45 years old, while participants with corneal arcus but age ≧45 years old were asked for the age of onset for the corneal arcus.…”

“…In addition to the Achilles tendons, the other tendons where xanthomas usually appear are the tendons of the hand (extensor tendons) and the elbow [ 5 ]. Xanthomas have also been reported in the plantar fascia, fascia and periosteum overlying the lower tibia, the peroneal tendons, the triceps tendon and the patellar tendon [ 6 ]. Mechanical stress and neovascularization are considered as predisposing factor for xanthomas growth [ 7 ].…”

“…Mechanical stress and neovascularization are considered as predisposing factor for xanthomas growth [ 7 ]. In addition to tendinous xanthomas, several types of xanthomas can be found such as tuberous and eruptive xanthoma, eyelid xanthelasma and xanthoma planum [ 6 ]. Xanthomas are frequently associated with hyperlipidemia, and high levels of triglycerides and total cholesterol: within families affected by familial hypercholesterolemia and type II hyperlipoproteinemia Achilles tendon xanthomas are frequent, probably because of the low-density lipoprotein storage in the tendon [ 7 ].…”
