Tendencies in the design of the grounding devices for the electrical installations of the belarusian energy system

Abstract: The paper considers the reasons to improve the design system for the grounding devices. It proposes a special-purpose composite mixture to reduce the soil electrical resistivity values. A number of field experiments were carried out to measure the resistance values of the grounding devices of the experimental circuits, after their near-electrode soil space had been treated with a special mixture to optimize the electrical resistivity of the grounding connection.

“…Reducing the influence of external factors on the resistance of the grounding device will allow a more rational approach to the consumption of materials and reduce labor costs, as well as increase the reliability of grounding and electrical installations in general. The method developed by us to reduce the seasonality factor by using a soil-substituting mixture in the near-electrode space makes it possible to use ordinary black steel [5].…”

“…Known mineral activators produced in the CIS are a mixture of an ion-exchange salt modified with a halide activator and a surfactant. The disadvantage of such ground electrodes is the use of electrodes made of corrosion-resistant steel or non-ferrous metals as the electrode material [5]. Also, this method contributes to soil salinization and an increase in the rate of destruction of metal structures located in close proximity to the grounding device.…”

“…The need to provide a regulated value of grounding resistance leads to overconsumption of materials of grounding conductors, an increase in the volume of installation work, which leads to an increase in costs. When installing ground loops, various methods are used to reduce the resistance of grounding devices, such as the use of various types of electrode materials, as well as the use of various types of additives (electrolytes) and replacing the soil in the near-electrode space with another having a lower resistivity than the original soil, and some other [7][8][9][10].…”

“…According to known studies, soil resistivity can be reduced by the use of sodium chloride, magnesium sulfate, copper sulfate and calcium chloride or similar substances in the near-electrode space [2,10,11]. The most widely used is the use of table salt and magnesium sulfate.…”
