Ten years of nonlinear optics in photonic crystal fibre

Abstract: International audienceThe year 2009 marks the tenth anniversary of the first report of white-light supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fibre. This result had a tremendous impact on the field of nonlinear fibre optics and continues to open up new horizons in photonic science. Here we provide a concise and critical summary of the current state of nonlinear optics in photonic crystal fibre, identifying some of the most important and interesting recent developments in the field. We also discuss several e… Show more

“…While such fiber modes are not true BICs because there can be residual radiation (the propagation loss is typically 1 dB/m), they enable broadband guidance in air and have found many applications including multiple-octave frequency comb generations 229 (shown in Fig. 5d), all-fiber gas cells 230,231 , particle transportation and levitation 232 , and Raman sensing 233 .…”

“…At the beginning time, PCF has limited applications areas. Now PCF is used in fields of THz telecommunications [13], nonlinear optics [14], bio sensing [15], chemical sensing [16,17], spectroscopy [18], optical chromatography [19], and fuel adulteration detection [20]. In medical science, it is becoming more and more popular for bio-photonics [21] and neurophotonics [22].…”

“…This so-called resonant radiation (RR) concept represents a central process in nonlinear waveguide optics (see Refs. [35,36], and references within) with a remarkably rich variety of applications. There is still an increasing interest on RR, as quite recently its ability to open new routes for highly coherent light sources with an unprecedented spectral range has been demonstrated [37][38][39][40].…”
