Abstract:This work details theory in which selection favors generalists in a more variable environment. Specifically, in a two-host-one-parasitoid model, temporal variation in host abundances alters the optimal searching strategy and leads to the evolution of more generalist parasitoid strategies. Consistent with empirical observations, parasitoids learn host/plant odors, and use them as a cue to search for oviposition sites. The amount of unsuccessful search time required before a parasitoid alters its searching cues … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
