Temporal Support for Persistent Stored Modules

Abstract: Abstract-We show how to extend temporal support of SQL to the Turing-complete portion of SQL, that of persistent stored modules (PSM). Our approach requires minor new syntax beyond that already in SQL/Temporal to define and to invoke PSM procedures and functions, thereby extending the current, sequenced, and non-sequenced semantics of queries to such routines. Temporal upward compatibility (existing applications work as before when one or more tables are rendered temporal) is ensured. We provide a transformati… Show more

“…Data translators are used to easily change data from one format to another, for example, by shredding an XML document into relations . Schema/workload translators such as TXL can be used to translate the schema and workload from one form to another, for example, to translate τ XQuery queries into standard XQuery queries .…”

“…τ Bench currently consists of ten individual benchmarks, spanning various technologies including XML, XML Schema , XQuery , τ XSchema , τ XQuery , PSM , and τ PSM ; the B‐R diagram is given in Figure , and the main components are summarized in Table . The benchmarks are fully described elsewhere ; we briefly describe the components of each here.…”
