Temporal Sequencing Abilities in Musicians Violinists and Non-Musicians

Abstract: Introduction:The ability of temporal sequencing refers to the processing of two or more auditory stimuli in order of occurrence in time. Objective:To compare the skill of sequencing between musicians and non-musicians violinists from the frequency pattern test (FPT). Method:The prospective, constituted a group of 20 violinists and musicians non-musicians 20 participants, half matched for age and education, all males who underwent audiometric assessment and WPPT. Results:Comparing the performance in TFP between… Show more

“…These findings corroborate those obtained in previous studies (9,10) . A study compared the temporal ordering ability among violinists and a control group using the FPT and found that the performance of the group of musicians was better, with a statistically significant difference (9) .…”

“…These findings corroborate those obtained in previous studies (9,10) . A study compared the temporal ordering ability among violinists and a control group using the FPT and found that the performance of the group of musicians was better, with a statistically significant difference (9) . In another study (10) , the FPT was applied to professional and amateur singers singing in and out of key, and statistically significant differences were also detected regarding the performance of the groups in that test, and the group of professional singers had the best performance (96.5%), followed by the groups of amateur singers (82.3%).…”

“…When analyzing the temporal ordering of frequency skill, it was found that the participants of the GWMT presented superior performance when compared to the GNMT, by humming (nonverbal PPS) and also by naming (verbal PPS) the sound patterns in the sequence correctly. A study that compared the performance of adult violinists with non musicians, in the frequency discrimination test, found that violinists had a higher performance on the test, agreeing with the findings of this study (24) .…”
