“…The changes in surface morphology of the ovary during follicular development in this species are similar to those changes reported for other primates, including macaques [10] and capuchin monkeys [11]. At 5-6 days after cloprostenol injection, 2-4 follicles were similar in surface diameter (1-1.5 mm); however, only 2-3 of these follicles proceeded to grow and subsequently ovulate.…”

“…Those investigators reported that of approximately 100 antral follicles, only 10% reached medium size (1.0-1.9 mm) and only 2-3 obtained a diameter greater than 2.0 mm by mid-follicular phase. Dierschke and Clark [6] reported identification of the ovulatory follicle 8 days before ovulation in macaques, while Nagle et al [11] reported identification of ovulatory follicles 4 days before ovulation in capuchin monkeys. There was only one wave of follicle growth in the present study; this pattern is similar to that observed in other primates but different from that for domestic species in which 2-3 waves of follicle growth may precede ovulation [15].…”

“…In women, the preovulatory follicle can reach 20 mm (Baker & Wai, 1976). In C. apella, the mean diameter of the preovulatory follicle can reach 10-12 mm (Nagle et al, 1980). The 983 Fm is not the maximum diameter that an antral follicle can reach in C. apella females and this diameter does not correspond to the final reached at follicular maturation.…”

“…Devido a esta longevidade muito se tem estudado acerca desta espécie como aspectos de sua fisiologia reprodutiva (Nagle et al 1980, Carosi & Visalbergh 2002, Ortiz et al 2005, parâmetros comportamentais (Carosi & Visalbergh 2002, Pannozzo et al 2007) e principalmente suas características morfológicas.…”
