Temporal Compression by Stimulated Brillouin Scattering of Q-switched Pulse with Fused Quartz Glass

Abstract: A nonlinear acoustic measurement is studied for creep damage evaluation. An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) magnetostrictively couples to a surface-shear-wave resonance along the circumference of a cylindrical specimen during the creep of Cr-Mo-V steels. The excitation of the EMAT at half of the resonance frequency caused a standing wave to contain only the second-harmonic component, which was received by the same EMAT for determining the second-harmonic amplitude. This measured surface-wave nonline… Show more

“…They obtained the compressed pulse with a width of 4 ns in methane [64]. Since then, a large number of groups have used the structure to perform compression in different media [65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73] (as shown in Table 1). For instance, Kmetik et al compressed the pulse width from 10 to 0.9 ns with an energy of 0.57 J in ultra-filtered FC-75 liquid medium and obtained up to 94% energy reflectivity [71].…”

“…The use of SBS for the compression of laser pulses has been investigated theoretically and experimentally for various types of lasers and active medium (Schiemann et al, 1997;Dane et al, 1994a;Yoshida et al, 2004a;Neshev et al, 1999). The design of SBS based compressors for the generation of sub-nanoseconds pulses for the energies approaching the Joule level is an active field of research (Hon, 1980).…”

“…The stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in various solids, liquids, and gases is a very powerful tool to build the The Current Trends in SBS and phase conjugation phase conjugation mirror (PCM) in high-power laser systems (Rockwell, 1988;Dane et al, 1994a;Yoshida et al, 1997Yoshida et al, , 1999Yoshida et al, , 2003Yoshida et al, , 2004Kong et al, 2005bKong et al, , 2005cKong et al, , 2006Kong et al, , 2007aMeister et al, 2007;Kappe et al, 2007;Yasuhara et al, 2008). A PCM based on the SBS process can be successfully used to compensate thermally induced phase distortion in high power laser systems.…”
