Template synthesis and characterization of WO3/TiO2composite nanotubes

Abstract: Highly ordered WO3/TiO2 composite nanotubes have been successfully prepared by the combination of the sol–gel chemical method and the anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) templating method. The diameter of the WO3/TiO2 composite nanotubes is about 100 nm, which is in good agreement with the pore diameter of the AAO template. The composite nanotubes are composed of mixed oxides of W6+ and Ti4+.

“…The synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) using a RigakuD/max2550VL/PC system operated at 40 kV and 40 mA with Cu-Ka radiation (l = 1.5406 Å ), at a scan rate of 5u min 21 and a step size of 0.050u in 2h. Nitrogen adsorption measurements at 77 K were performed using an ASAP2020 volumetric adsorption analyzer, after the samples had been outgassed for 8 h in the degas port of the adsorption apparatus.…”

“…Anodization of aluminum can also produce an ordered nanostructure [43], although resembling more a nanomembrane (array of nanoholes) than nanostructures as those shown in the case of titanium anodization. Note, however, that highly ordered WO 3 /TiO 2 composite nanotubes have been prepared using anodic alumina as template [44]. It is thus possible to combine the features of these different materials to prepare in principle novel catalysts.…”

“…The traditional preparation methods of TNAs include hydrothermal synthesis [24,25] and template synthesis, in which porous alumina [26,27] , ZnO [28] and certain organic polymer [29,30] were used as templates. However, the TNAs prepared by both of the methods mentioned above were not fit for using as the film material in solar cells directly, because TNAs prepared with template synthesis usually resulted in large pore diameter, limited output and bad pattern.…”
