Template for MR Visualization and Needle Targeting

Abstract: To improve the targeting accuracy and reduce procedure time in MRI-guided procedures, a 3Dprinted flexible template was developed. The template was printed using flexible photopolymer resin FLFLGR02 in Form 2 printer® (Formlabs Inc, Somerville, MA). The flexible material gives the template a unique advantage by allowing it to make close contact with human skin and provide accurate insertion with the help of the newly developed OncoNav software. At the back of the template, there is a grid comprised of circular… Show more

“…The average error is near the expected tolerable error and is in the range of potential clinical relevance, depending on the need for accuracy. Other systems for improved accuracy of TP biopsies include a grid template with a 3 mm target distance error in a phantom study 22 and a robotics with a 2 mm error in a phantom study. 23 , 24 However, our HoloLens AR system only provides visual guidance, without any hardware or physical constraints.…”

“…4,[6][7][8]26,27 The anatomical accuracy of the prostheses, which may affect the appearance of the prostheses, is limited by the accuracy of the 3D scanner (0.05 mm) 19 and 3D printer (0.05 mm). 21 This can be improved using a 3D scanner and 3D printer with higher accuracy.…”

“…The inner and outer molds were fabricated by a stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer (Form 2 by Formlabs, Somerville, MA), with an accuracy of 0.05 mm 21 and a layer height of 0.025 mm, as shown in Figure 2(d) with resin (Clear Resin by Formlabs). The 3D-printed inner and outer molds (Figure 2(d)) were assembled (Figure 2(e)) based on the pin-hole alignments.…”

“…Preliminary data was first reported as an oral presentation at the 2019 International Symposium on Medical Robotics as the proof of concept. 25 The goal of the presented method was to achieve a comparable localization accuracy and cost but higher resolution compared with the template approaches, which usually have a localization accuracy of around 3 mm, resolution of 2-5 mm, 9,18,21,22 and cost of $10-$30 per piece.…”
