Temperature gradient modeling of a steel box-girder suspension bridge using Copulas probabilistic method and field monitoring

Abstract: A novel copula-based probabilistic model is proposed to establish the temperature difference analysis model for a long-span suspension bridge’s steel box girder. The key idea is to express a two-dimensional function of the temperature difference in flat steel box girder by using copulas. The maximum and minimum values of daily temperature difference model was developed using long-terms structural health monitoring data. Then, the correlation between adjacent temperature differences is investigated using five t… Show more

“…The samples were cured in the laboratory environment with a temperature of 20 ± 1 °C and a natural humidity of about 26% for 14, 28, and 60 days. In order to make the results applicable for the field projects, it is better to simulate the real field condition [ 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 , 67 , 68 , 69 ]. In other words, these specific curing times were selected in this research since foundations and structures are often built on lime-based concretes after two to eight weeks of concrete casting [ 21 ].…”

“…However, the secondary internal forces induced by temperature are neglected, which may also contribute to the fatigue damage. For example, the transverse and vertical temperature gradients of flat steel box girders under sunshine radiation are significant [16,17]. erefore, the effects of temperature must be considered in fatigue life prediction of OSD welds [18,19].…”

“…Wu derived the influences of changes in the structural stiffness and mass on the dynamic characteristics, established a damage identification model based on the mass change according to the variable quantity of inherent structural frequency and verified the feasibility of two methods: additional mass method and a variable quantity of inherent frequency [7][8][9][10][11][12][13].…”
