Temperature evolution of structural and magnetic properties of stoichiometric LiCu2O2: Correlation of thermal expansion coefficient and magnetic order

Abstract: Temperature-dependent crystallographic and magnetic studies on stoichiometric single crystals of LiCu 2 O 2 are reported. The magnetic properties are similar to earlier findings demonstrating antiferromagnetic ordering below 25 K. Evidence of magnetoelastic coupling is observed in the thermal expansion along the c-direction; not only at the low temperature antiferromagnetic transitions, but an anomalous behavior of the thermal expansion indicate magnetoelastic coupling also to the magnetic ordering related to … Show more

“…The Li-Cu-O compounds with a high initial charge capacity are candidates for a new cathode material, such as Li 2 CuO 2 and LiCuO 2 (Vitins et al, 2003;Nakamura et al, 2005;Prakash et al, 2005;Arachi et al, 2012;Zhang et al, 2018). Besides, the well-known lithium copper oxides LiCu 2 O 2 and LiCu 3 O 3 with mixed valent copper are unique in the Li-Cu-O system, which gives rise to high T c behavior and are semiconductor with ρ 293K of 10 6 and 0.1 cm (Goshall, 1986;Hibble et al, 1990;Roessli et al, 2001;Zhu et al, 2011;Kamentsev et al, 2013;Lepple et al, 2013;Ivanov et al, 2014;Bush et al, 2018). Additionally, LiCu 2 O 2 and LiCu 3 O 3 show excellent thermal stability (Hibble et al, 1990;Bush et al, , 2019, which makes them good cathodes for thermal battery.…”
